You're invited to Chicas Latinas de Sacramento's Yoga en el Capitolio fundraiser benefiting "Starting Off on the Right Foot" Shoe Drive! Funds raised will go toward the purchase of NEW shoes for the students at our 2019 sponsored school, Glenwood Elementary! Your $12 yoga donation will provide a child in need with a new pair of shoes for the school year!

Please join us on Saturday, July 27 for a morning of gratitude and a gentle yoga vinyasa practice at the beautiful Capitol Park in downtown Sacramento. (Event located on the lawn located at L & 12th street.)

ALL are welcomed! All ages, genders, bodies, and abilities ~ no experience is required. Bring your mat, water, sunscreen, and your new shoe donations! You'll leave knowing you provided a child with the opportunity to Start Off on the Right Foot and have enjoyed a great yoga class in nature, surrounded by a supportive community. Give to others and give to your self... an amazing start to any day!

About “Starting Off on the Right Foot”

During the spring and summer months, Chicas Latinas de Sacramento holds a community donation drive, to collect NEW shoes for the children at our sponsored school; this year, Glenwood Elementary School. New shoe and monetary donations will be accepted at any of our drive events, additionally monetary donations will be accepted online and by mail. Chicas Latinas will host a “Starting Off on the Right Foot” distribution event at our sponsored school in early October, where bilingual volunteer and media opportunities will be available.

2014 – Hagginwood Elementary: Distributed 100+ pairs
2015 – Woodbine Elementary: Distributed 400+ pairs
2016 – Del Paso Heights Elementary: Distributed 500+ pairs
2018 – D.W. Babcock Elementary: Distributed 500+ pairs

About Glenwood Elementary

Glenwood Elementary School is part of the Robla Elementary School District. Glenwood Elementary serves approximately 500 K-6th grade students. Over 60% of the students identify as Hispanic/Latino and 93% of the entire student-body are considered socioeconomically disadvantaged. Please consider supporting Chicas Latinas’ 2019 shoe drive, and help send Sacramento area children back-to-school on the right foot!

About Yogi Tammy Jones-Romero

Tammy has practiced yoga for 16 years and in 2017 started a yoga class for the roller derby team. Once she completes her yoga certification, Tammy plans to volunteer and teach yoga to WEAVE's clients.
