Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle will describe Cook County's commitment to support economic development in the South Suburbs. Her remarks will include the final rollback of the sales tax which is critical to support retail development such as the new Meijer Project. The President will also address other initiatives in this year's budget that will foster economic growth and jobs. Specifically, she will discuss the County's significant investment in transportation projects such as widening Center Street near the CN Intermodal Site-a critical truck route in Harvey, and transit oriented development to aid growth.
Flossmoor Mayor Paul S. Braun will discuss the new Meier Super Store in Flossmoor.
Vicky Linko, Funk Linko, Inc. President & CEO - Funk Linko has continued to expand its manufacturing capabilities with large investments in the latest technologies such as robotic welders and CNC machining centers which enables Funk Linko to provide products to Fortune 500 companies. Vicky Linko will discuss the need to continue implementing new technologies and also the need for a skilled labor to meet the needs of high tech manufacturing companies.
Nancy Williamson, Illinois Department of Natural Resources will discuss green infrastructure. Chicago Community Trust recently awarded funding to Chicago Wilderness (CW) to do green infrastructure mapping and planning in 36 communities in the area designated as Millennium Reserve Core Area. She will briefly explain the multi-jurisdictional planning process, the collaboration of agencies and non-governmental organizations expected to participate, and possible benefits for communities involved.
