Event description

Chicago River Day 2018

Bunker Hill

Site Captain: Erin Faulkner, site steward

Come out and spend some time with the Chicago River. It's the river that brought explorers and tradesmen to create our great city. It's home to over 70 species of fish and provides critical habitat for millions of birds and butterflies during migration. It's also a place to relax and have fun! Let's show our respect and join together to take care of this amazing natural resource.

Volunteers are needed to collect garbage and improve river habitat. Please wear closed toed shoes and work clothes that can get dirty. There are over 60 Chicago River Day sites, so choose to work in your neighborhood, or take a road trip somewhere new. Volunteers receive a Chicago River Day T-shirt as a special thank you gift!

Directions: Bunker Hill on Google Maps will take you to the northern entrance of this park. Please meet at the southern entrance of the park off of Caldwell Avenue across from Tonty Ave.

This year we are focusing on the Monarch Butterfly to connect our work to the ecosystem we are improving. Read about some cool facts about the monarch here.

Help spread the word! Share this event on social media and use the hashtag #ChiRiverDay2018.

Please register so we can ensure we send enough bags, gloves and T-shirts to each location. Registration for all Chicago River Day sites will remain open until Monday, May 7, 2018 or until the site is at capacity.

Visit Friends' Chicago River Day FAQ page for more information about how to be best prepared for the day and other general information. Have a question? Contact Annette Anderson, Friends’ volunteer and events associate at or at (312) 939-0490, extension 14.
