TICKETING

1. When do tickets go on sale?
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Monday, July 16th at 12pm and again at 9pm. We will have a set amount available at both times. After the 9pm release is sold out, our waitlist will open.

2.  How many tickets can I purchase?
Just one, which is good for two people.

3. What does the cost of the ticket include? Why is it $30?
Once you attend the event, we hope you'll attend in subsequent years, too. We've found that location fees can vary greatly, but we want to keep prices stable from one year to the next. $30 accommodates a multitude of locations throughout the city as well as planning costs, permits, insurance, and other associated fees. We plan to keep it at $30 for the foreseeable future.

4. I bought a ticket to your 2011 event. Am I guaranteed a seat at the 2012 "Chicago in White"?
Yes, but you must buy your tickets between Friday, July 13th at 8am until Monday, July 16th at 8am. After that time, your priority code will expire and unclaimed tickets will be added to the General Public block.

5. I was on the waiting list for your 2011 event. Am I guaranteed a seat at the 2012 "Chicago in White"?
No, but you do have an opportunity to buy a ticket before the general public. A limited amount of tickets will be available only for waitlisted guests between Saturday, July 14th at 8am and Monday, July 16th at 8am. After that time, your priority code will expire and any unclaimed tickets will be added to the General Public block. If our block for 2011 waitlisted guests sells out and you weren't able to get a ticket, please try again during the General Public sales!

6. How do I get on your 2012 waiting list?
Waiting list registration will open after the July 16th 9pm sales are finished.

7. Are tickets transferable? Refundable?
Tickets are not transferable, but they are refundable until Saturday, August 11th. Please contact chicagoinwhite@gmail.com to obtain a refund.  After August 11th, tickets are not refundable.

8. My friend wants me to buy a ticket for them.
That's very nice of you! Please use their name, phone number, and address when purchasing. As tickets are not transferable, all personal information on the order form must match the ticket holder's ID. You will be asked to show your ID at check-in.

GENERAL

1. Did you change your name?
Yes! We are very excited about our fresh name. If you attended the 2011 "Diner en Blanc Chicago" you can expect to see many familiar faces at the 2012 Chicago in White.

2. Where is Chicago in White held?
The event's location is kept secret until 7pm on August 25th. You will learn the secret location after you arrive at your Harmonization Point!

3. What is a Harmonization Point? A Head of Table (HOT)?
A Harmonization Point is a check-in point (typically an L station) where you will meet your Head of Table (a small group leader) prior to departing for the secret location as a group, via public transportation. You will be assigned an HOT based on the Harmonization Points you select during the ticket buying process. You may contact your HOT at their email address, which will be given to you (along with your Harmonization Point assignment) on approximately July 25th.

4. Is CIW accessible for those with mobility concerns?
Yes.  As indicated during your ticket purchase, a special Harmonization Point was created for our guests who have mobility concerns.  If you did not select this Harmonization Point, please contact chicagoinwhite@gmail.com for more details, or to change your Harmonization Point. The CIW event site is fully accessible.

5. In the case of inclement weather will there be a rain date?
Chicago in White happens RAIN or SHINE!  White umbrellas can be purchased online or in local stores.  If it looks like there may be inclement weather, dress appropriately - it may be the most fun you've ever had!

6. What should I bring?
Guests must bring the following items from home, and adhere to the code of dress and conduct. Advice on where to buy supplies and clothing will be periodically posted on our Facebook page.

  • Tables and Chairs
Tables should be no larger than 30x30, and of an average table height (27" to 29"). Tables must be covered with a white tablecloth. Chairs should be solid folding chairs, NOT nylon "bag chairs". Chairs must be white or covered with a white chair cover or cloth.
  • Food
Although we will be dining al fresco, please keep the elegant spirit of the event in mind. Whether you bring a splendid creation from home or pick-up from your favorite gourmet counter, plan to enjoy an appetizer, main course, dessert, and non-alcoholic beverage. Your food does not have to be white! Publican Quality Meats is offering a gourmet Chicago in White picnic basket. Please order by 8/21.
You must bring your own white trash bag and dispose of any waste at home (not at garbage cans on-site). We leave the site as clean as we found it, with absolutely no evidence of our presence, even in their garbage cans.
  • Drinks
Alcohol is not permitted at Chicago in White.
  • Tableware
The overall effect of your table should be white, elegant, and chic. A limited use of metallics is acceptable, such as white china trimmed with gold, silverware, or silver candlesticks. Feel free to bring white flowers and other charming extras.
  • Dress Code
With the exception of shoes, guests' entire outfit must be white, including pants, shorts, shirts, skirts, dresses, and jackets. Hats and creative attire are permitted, but always with a nod to the elegant and chic nature of the event.
  • Conduct Code
Only the most proper decorum will be tolerated. Guests are expected to show authorities that large groups are capable of incredible deference and respect toward the beauty of the space the event is held, and their fellow diners. In the true tradition of the “flash mob”, guests will sparkle and dazzle, while at the same time the space they occupy remains pristine and unspoiled by the event.
