Description

Join RVSTL at our next Wine Club as we explore Cherokee Street!

Location Notes:

Cherokee Street is a vibrant center in St. Louis bringing together contemporary art, architecture and culture, all within a historic district. Galleries, design studios, art exhibition spaces, public art projects and artists’ studios assemble on Cherokee Street. This month we will explore four business at the corner of Cherokee & Compton as we hop between the following locations:

GOLDEN GEMS: This new addition to Cherokee Street is home to two sisters; Amanda and Susan who "make cool shit" that includes décor and accessories that mix simplistic beauty with a sense of moxie.

STL STYLE HOUSE: A bona fide force in the local STL scene. After more than a decade in business, The Vine brothers, Jeff & Randy along with a talented team of cohorts run this bustling full-service retail and custom design shop. They are taking their unrelenting love for St. Louis "Red Brick Mama" to a whole new level.

TENTH LIFE: Tenth Life provides veterinary care, foster homes, and adoptive placement to stray cats and kittens, prioritizing those with special needs. They work to end unnecessary euthanasia and cat homelessness through educational outreach, community programs, and collaborative partnerships.

FLOOD PLAIN: A non-profit, artist-run art space. Flood Plain is dedicated to exploring new ways of being and of being together in the world through collective experiences around art. They aim to support St. Louis’ artistic communities by showcasing the work of socially, aesthetically and intellectually experimental artists, and by facilitating connections between St. Louis and the creative communities of the Midwest and South.

Wine Program for the evening:

In honor of us being on Cherokee Street, with its large concentration of Latino owned-and-operated bakeries, restaurants, shops and grocers. Our wine theme for evening will be Latin American Wine!

Latin America wine and winemaking has a longer history than anywhere else in the New World. In the mid 1500’s, Jesuit missionaries brought viticulture to South America. This introduction began in Chile and spread to Argentina. While Chilean wines are better known on the foreign market, Argentina wine is increasing their quality and is making a global impact. As well as these two countries, there is also wine produced in Brazil, Peru and small quantities in Uruguay.

Admission Cost:

Cost to attend is simply a bottle of wine per our evening's wine program or food that pairs well according to the suggested wine and educational profile for the evening (see notes below).

Note: We plan to open only wines that fit into the evening's program. Any wines that are outside of the recommendation will be used for future tastings, classes or events. If unable to bring wine, please bring food to taste and pair with the wine to enhance the program.

Wine suggestions:

  • Any and all wine from Latin America! Most popular is Chilean and Argentina wine but many other countries from Latin America also produce wine and can be found in several specialty wine shops in and around St. Louis! So explore the local wine shops and then let us explore the tastes of Latin American Wine.

Food suggestions:

  • Wine is meant to be enjoyed with food. The perfect match can bring out subtle characteristics in a wine and enhance your tasting experience. We suggest that guest bring finger foods that pair well with multiple wine styles for this month's event. Classic pairings are tried and true, but it can also be interesting to enjoy wine with food more subjectively so consider a variety of foods with distinctive flavors such as herb sprigs, raw vegetables, cured meats, cheese, salt and chocolate. Since the theme is South American Wine try finger foods with a Latin American twist!

Volunteers:

We could use 6 volunteers to check people in, set up, clean up, and pour wine. It's a great way to meet everyone at the event. If you would like one of these opportunities, and can get there at 5:30 pm, contact us at wineclub@rvstl.org ASAP. All volunteers will be given a full paid RVSTL membership for the reminder of the 2018 year. This is a $20 value plus discounts and free entry to our events for the reminder of the 2018!

Parking:

Parking will be on street so plan accordingly!

Rules:

1. Please reserve a ticket that identifies if you will be bringing a bottle of wine or a plate of food to share.

2. You may only sign up for yourself and one guest max. Other friends need to sign up separately. You will be asked to give you and your guest's first and last name and e-mail addresses on the sign-up page.

3. We prefer finger foods, but if your food needs utensils or platters, bring them. Please do not bring "bagged" snacks such as pretzels or potato chips without bringing a vessel to put them in.

4. When in doubt about bringing wine or food, bring food. We generally come up short in this area.

5. Please bring that needs to be chilled pre-chilled and ready to drink.

6. 21 years old and older only.

7. Feel free to come alone. This is a networking event. Meet new people!

8. Please arrive when the event is scheduled to begin, as we need your wine and food for the evening. Please only arrive early if you are a volunteer.
