Event Details

Mozilla is launching a Gigabit Community Fund to support innovators in Chattanooga and Kansas City develop & experiment with education & workforce development opportunities on next gen networks.

Next generation communication and networking technologies offer opportunities for everyone in our communities.

This kickoff event at the Chattanooga Public Library is a community sprint for educators, technologists & community catalysts to come together and build: Let’s create together.

Join us for an action-oriented day of yak as well as hack

City Mayor Andy Berke and County Mayor Jim Coppinger will kick off the day. The National Science Foundation, Department of Education, EPB, GENI Project Office, Mozilla's Hive NYC Learning Network, & US Ignite will explore ways we can move from having the gig to using the gig to meet education and workforce development needs.

Community leaders, principals, and organizational catalysts are especially encouraged to attend this important morning session!

Lunch will be provided by the Mt. Vernon Restaurant.  Start brainstorming project ideas at your table or move around to the round-robin style application demos happening around the room.

1:30PM - 5:30PM

You will drive hands-on break outs in the afternoon. We’ll make progress on projects that are pragmaticdeployable in the near term, integrated with a local org's service offerings, have measurable impact on constituents, and which are re-usable and shareable in some way.

6:00PM to 8:00 PM

Continue the conversation at an informal reception at Community Pie.  This event is sponsored by Chambliss Startup Group.

Building the network we need

Mozilla’s mission is to build a web where people know more, do more and do better. We want to:

1) Build a network of educators, designers, catalysts and technologists building prototypes of projects that leverage gigabit technology as learning platforms

2) Empower educators to explore and experiment with cutting edge learning tools

3) Teach both the production and application of tools designed to deepen the learning of its users

4) Shape the environments for what is possible and needed in the emerging gigabit economy

Let's build it together, today
