Winner of the first 1st Annual Duke Ellington Vocal Competition in New York City Hosted by Mercedes Ellington, 29-year-old Turner has taken the jazz scene by storm. Charles relocated to New York in 2011 and has performed in venues such as Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, Birdland, Smoke Jazz club and historic Minton’s Playhouse where he held a residency for two years.
Turner recently released his Sophomore Album “ Single & In Love” at Jazz at Lincoln Center, produced by Grammy award-winning drummer Ulysses Owens Jr. Charles has traveled the world performing in Paris, Budapest, London, and New Zealand. He currently holds a position at the American School of Modern Music in Paris where he teaches traveling between NYC and Paris.
Charles was invited to participate in the prestigious Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead program, where he worked with artist such as Jason Moran, Craig Handy, Marc Cary, and performed at the Kennedy Center. He also won Best Jazz Vocalist awards at the Monterey Jazz Festival and was a finalist at the esteemed Shure Montreux jazz festival Vocal Competition. He continues to share his music and light to the world and has a passion for bringing jazz music for the next generations to come.
