About this event
This programme by Chapel Perilous is centered on Sir John Tavener’s The Hidden Face, and features rarely-heard sacred and secular chamber works by Arvo Pärt and Mátyás Seiber, alongside works by Giacinto Scelsi and Hildegard von Bingen, in the beautiful Painted Church: All Saints', Cambridge
Using chant, a variety of instruments including the church organ, the music will be localised around the building with the different pieces following-on from each other, exploring different acoustics, sonorities, and relationships between instruments and voices. The programme is intended to last around an hour.
Book-ended with Pärt’s Es Sang vor Langen Jahren and Tavener’s The Hidden Face, the programme will explore space, silence, light and shade with a blend of sacred and secular music. Other chamber works by Tavener and Pärt will be interspersed with three works by Hildegard Von Bingen (1098-1179), three short graces by the Hungarian composer Mátyás Seiber (1905 - 1960), and Three Latin Prayers (1972) by the Italian composer Giacinto Scelsi (1905 -1988).
