Featuring keynote speakers: William A. Darity Jr. and A. Kirsten Mullen and partnerships with local restaurants

About this Event

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP's annual Freedom Fund banquet is going virtual in 2020! Join us Dec. 3 for a truly special event of community togetherness.

The banquet’s theme, “The Time Is Now,” reminds us that we can all play a role in ensuring equality and justice by confronting and defeating racism in our community and beyond.

We are honored to present this year’s keynote speakers, William A. Darity Jr. and A. Kirsten Mullen, who offer a profound accounting and response to the legacy of systemic racial and economic injustice in their new book, From Here to Equality: Reparations for Black Americans in the Twenty-First Century.

We will also be partnering with local restaurants, who will be donating a portion of their proceeds that evening, so attendees can recreate a true banquet experience at home while enjoying the event virtually.

Proceeds from the Freedom Fund Banquet, the branch‘s primary fundraiser, support the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, National and North Carolina NAACP operations and Chapel Hill-Carrboro programming, activism and outreach.

The full event website is coming soon, spotlighting partner restaurants, sponsors, and more event details.
