Description

What’s it like to raise a child with Down Syndrome?

The Chapel Haven Family Association invites you to our Wednesday, January 18 Film night at Chapel Haven to
explore that question, with the screening of “Kids Like These,” a movie made for CBS in 1987 that features our very own community member, Josh O’Neill, as a youngster!

Join us in the Chapel Haven Outreach Center at 5 p.m. for dinner, the screening of the film and a talk with the film’s writer, Emily Perl Kingsley.

In a “red carpet” moment, we’ll also watch brief excerpts from two other films featuring Chapel Haven community members:

Dylan Kuhnhenn, who appeared very briefly as an extra in the movie, “Game Change,” based on the life and political career of Sarah Palin

Karl Arrezini, who was featured in a documentary about autism shown at the Tribeca Film Festival

Many thanks to Tom and Rita O’Neill for inviting Emily Perl Kingsley to our campus. Emily just retired from a fascinating career as a writer for Sesame Street. She wrote the movie, “Kids Like These,” based on her own experience as the mother of Jason, an individual with Down Syndrome. The film covers the first nine years of Jason’s life (with Josh playing Jason as a five-year-old tyke!) To read more about the film, click here: NYT – Kids Like These

Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. and the film will be shown at 5:30 pm, with a question and answer discussion to follow.

The event is free and open to all but we ask that you register for planning purposes!

Chapel Haven has enjoyed a great turnout all year for our film nights, which feature films of interest to our community. Got an idea for a future film? Send your ideas to Chapel Haven Family Association
