Event description

Description

Some women have made considerable progress in professional occupations in Wales in the past 20 years but still encounter barriers to progression. For other women, the ability to access well paid full-time work in Wales’ still highly gender segregated labour market continues to result in few opportunities to escape a low pay, low hours trap.

This seminar will consider the changes and continuities in women’s employment experience in Wales over the past two decades and discuss how predicted changes within educational outcomes and occupational sectors might shape their experience in the future. We’ll also consider what employers in Wales can do to tackle the gendering of work and gender pay gaps.

Our Guest Speaker - Alison Parken OBE

Alison directed the Women Adding Value to the Economy (WAVE) research programme at Cardiff University (2012-2016). She has written extensively and advised governments and employers on gender employment and pay, and mainstreaming equality in public policy.

She is a member of the EHRC (Wales) Committee and was recently awarded an OBE for services to equality and diversity.
