Event description

Description

Please join us for the first annual conference of women at the Mann House in Concord, MI. The conference, open to all, will celebrate the role of women in the local community as they effect change and explore how we can use the past to effect future change in ourselves and others. Attendees will enjoy sessions on topics like "The Women of Concord," participate in a tour of Concord's Museums and Libraries, enjoy a delicious lunch, and hear a keynote presentation from Nancy Villa Bryk, Ph.D.

Tentative Conference Agenda

The Mann Sisters, namesake of our historic Mann House, graduated from Concord High School, Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan. Active participants in their local community, they taught in local schools, supported local agriculture, participated in community cultural events and institutions, and advocated for the right of women to vote. They created a legacy by giving their home to the State of Michigan as a cultural resource for future residents. We all effect change in our communities - how have you made change or inspired change in others?

All scheduled conference activities are included with the $25 registration fee. Dinner is on your own. Street parking for the Historic Universalist Church of Concord is available on the north side of Hanover Street or within one block of the building. Please contact Laurie Perkins, Historian at 517-241-0731 or perkinsl1@michigan.gov with any questions about this event.
