Change Leader Academy

Leading and Executing Quality Improvement Projects

Session One (January 14-15, 2019)

Learn a simple change method to fix problems that are keeping you awake at night and fulfill the provider contract requirement to complete annual quality improvement projects! (SAPC Provider Manual, version 3, page 146).

Los Angeles County, SAPC, has partnered with the California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions (CIBHS) to provide The Change Leader Academy: Leading and Executing Quality Improvement Projects. The Change Leader Academy, CLA for short, includes a series of training and coaching sessions that will be carried out over a consecutive four-month period. A LEARN-DO-SHARE approach will be used, allowing participants an opportunity to learn new concepts, engage in activities to practice what they just learned, and develop an implementation plan for their agency.

The CLA is perfect for leaders who want to boost their capacity to deliver better results, as well as emerging leaders who want to develop their capacity to plan and lead change. Each agency will be assigned an Expert Coach who will offer guidance during the implementation phase. Only 20 agencies per session can participate. Will you?

At the conclusion of the Change Leader Academy, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the “Who’s Who in Process Improvement” and understand describe the three key roles needed for any change project.
  2. Conduct a walk-through to develop skills for identifying core problems from the customer perspective and identify ways in which you can engage the change team and set the stage for change.
  3. Create a flow chart to identify problems and build consensus among the team.
  4. Design a change project and complete a change project form
  5. Define the Nominal Group Technique (NGT) and identify barriers and solutions for a problem.
  6. Demonstrate and utilize the basic concepts of rapid-cycle change using the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) approach to process improvement.
  7. Measure the impact of change and the importance of data in decision making.
  8. Utilize Kano’s Model of Customer Satisfaction.
  9. Offer tips for holding and facilitating successful change team meetings.

This training is sponsored by Los Angeles County SAPC, and is provided at no cost to LA county contract providers.

The ideal pair will consist of those that see the change/improvement as a priority or will be most impacted by the change and/or have the authority to make improvements. Having two people participate in the “in-person” learning sessions is critical to improving success. It is essential that the two people that participate can attend both days of the “in-person” learning sessions.
