Join astronaut Colonel Eileen Collins and Dr. Rodolfo Montez Jr. to celebrate the 20th launch anniversary of the Chandra X-Ray Observatory.

About this Event

Astronomy on Tap SATX is excited to bring you a special evening to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Chandra X-Ray Observatory’s launch. On October 10th we will welcome astronaut Colonel Eileen Collins and Dr. Rodolfo Montez Jr. to the AoT SATX stage at the Witte Museum!

Colonel Collins was the commander of the space shuttle STS-93 that launched Chandra, and the first ever female commander of the space shuttle. Her talk is titled “Launching the Chandra X-ray Observatory from Shuttle Mission STS-93”.

Dr. Rodolfo Montez Jr. of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics will be giving a talk titled “20 Years of Science with Chandra”. He is a San Antonio native and attended San Antonio College, graduating with associate degrees in both business administration and applied science, before transferring to UT Austin.

This event is open to all ages! Tickets are $15 and include light bites and beverages - including beer for the 21+ crowd. A special AoT SATX gift is also included in your ticket.
