Chancellor’s Conference Day

Free Minds + Free Bodies: Critical Thinking and Learning

Prepare your students for college by engaging them in curriculum that stimulates critical thinking by providing skills in observation, questioning, and argumentation. You will learn how to facilitate critical interdisciplinary conversations about art that will sharpen your students ability to evaluate aesthetics (visual arts), use logic (mathematics and science), and apply primary resources (social studies). You will be learning from works of art in the following exhibitions: Georgia O’Keefe: Living Modern, A Woman’s Afterlife: Gender Transformation in Ancient Egypt, We Wanted a Revolution: Black Radical Women. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. $80 regular single registration. $75 for groups of 10 or more.

Chose two of the three workshops to attend for the day:

Workshop A: Observation: Learning to Look

Attend this workshop to learn how to facilitate looking at art and learn new techniques for introducing looking to your students. Develop your students skills in spatial looking, creating context, and discussing perspectives.

Workshop B: Questioning and Using Inferences

Sometimes a good question is hard to find. Learn how to craft high quality questions that will help your students form hypotheses and develop testable predictions.

Workshop C: Argumentation: Logic and Support

Discover how to utilize the gallery as a space to practice logic. Learn techniques that will have your students creating proofs, supporting and challenging viewpoints, and using evidence to support claims.
