If you've ever wondered how to create compositions that "sing" and wanted to understand how to use colour effectively then this is the workshop for you. If you just need to have some time to yourself, doing something creative then this workshop ticks that box as well. Through a series of easy, fun and accessible art activities based on styles of abstract art, the workshop will focus on the ways colour and composition work to create different feelings in an artwork. You will learn some basic colour theory and some different compositional structures that will help you to make images that you love.
We start the day by relaxing into some easy and fun drawing activities. This is followed by a session learning about colour mixing and creating some small works exploring colour combinations. You will then have a choice of exploring composition either through photography or making collages. After lunch, you will work on a larger piece using the colour and composition strategies which you explored in the morning. There will be time for some individual attention and a mini art show to finish the session.
If you feel like staying and continuing to work on your art, I will be running a two hour Studio Session from 2:30-4:30. You will need to book that in addition to this workshop.
Reclaim the creative freedom that you see in children, that still resides in you, because life is better with art!
I supply all art materials, snacks plus tea and coffee. You bring your curious, art-loving self, your lunch and leave feeling full of inspiration and creative energy.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
The last tram stop of the 96 East Brunswick tram at the intersection of Blyth and Nicholson Sts. The route 508 and 504 buses also stop at this intersection. CERES is just a few minutes walk from here.
There is limited parking at CERES, however there is a car park on the corner of Stewart St and Nicholson St. (entry on Stewart St.) where you can park for the day.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
If you would like a take away coffee on arrival you will need to bring a keepcup or mug with you as the CERES cafe doesn't use disposable cups. Or allow enough time to sit down and have a coffee at the cafe before class starts.
Please bring a plate to share with the class for lunch. There is a fridge in the room but NO food heating facilities.
