Event description

Description

As one of the newest organizations to join the House of Pacific Relations in Balboa Park, the House of Chamorros will feature, A Chamorro History Workshop by speaker, historian, blogger and documentary producer, Eric Forbes, OCM of the Capuchin order. His one hour talk will be followed by a showing of the I AM CHAMORRO documentary and a community art project led by visiting Guam artist and historian, Judy Selk Flores, PhD.

This is an opportunity to hear the story of the most widely dispersed of American Pacific Islanders, a population that has chosen San Diego as its second home. Who are Chamorros and what is their role in history?

Our casual event will open at 9:30am with a chant by San Diego Chamorro performers.

The history presentation will include a talk and slideshow and be followed by a Q & A, ending at approximately 11am. Whether you are of Chamorro heritage, or are curious about the history of Guam, Saipan and the Mariana island chain, you will enjoy the engaging, often humorous style of Eric Forbes, affectionately known as Pale' (Paw lee) Eric.

From 11am, enjoy the I AM CHAMORRO documentary on the overhead screen, or join in a community art project organized by Guam artist, Dr. Judy Flores. Dr. Flores will offer her talents in San Diego following her presentation at the Ocean of Knowledge conference at UC Irvine earlier in the week.
