Event description

Description

Learn from rising stars of the international music scene! This June NISOM will bring world-class young professional musicians to Iowa for ChamberFest Dubuque. As part of the festival, local students can work with these phenomenal artists! Thanks to grant support, the workshop is free and open to all. Children through adults are encouraged to participate.

The workshop begins with a combined session with all the musicians before breaking into small groups. Registration by June 9 is required to participate in small groups.

Small Groups
Memorization with pianist Sean Chen
Chamber Ensemble Playaing with violinist Elizabeth Fayette
Bach Cello Suites with cellist Bridget Pasker
Musical Styles on Acoustic Guitar with guitarist Jiji Kim
Mallet Instruments with percussionist Mari Yoshinaga
Turning Words into Music with composer Michael Gilbertson

Each year brings a unique combination of performers. ChamberFest Dubuque 2017 features NISOM and Juilliard Alumnus Michael Gilbertson, who is now a successful composer; cellist Bridget Pasker, a fellow Dubuque native and Juilliard alumna; pianist Sean Chen, who took the crystal award in the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2013; violinist Elizabeth Fayette, who has been praised by the New York Times for her “alluring, lustrous sound and seasoned virtuosity;” guitarist Jiji Kim, who recently won the highly-coveted first prize in the 2016 Concert Artists Guild International Competition; and percussionist Mari Yoshinaga, who has performed, lectured, coached, and taught in Asia, Europe and the United States. These distinguished musicians perform separately across the country and around the world, but they will only come together for NISOM’s ChamberFest Dubuque.
