9:00 a.m.: The Future of Work
The workforce is undergoing a rapid transformation. In this session, we will explore how organizations and policymakers can tackle pressing workplace challenges and opportunities such as filling the skills gap, competing with enhanced unemployment benefits, integrating emerging technologies, returning employees to in-person work and more.
9:45 a.m.: Rebuilding Our Small Businesses and Downtowns
COVID-19 brought an acute and sudden shock to many small businesses and downtowns. All corners of downtown life - from home to office, park to restaurants – are now in need of a reboot. In this session, we will explore how we might work together to help them rebuild and reemerge even stronger.
10:25 a.m.: The Power of the Purse: A Conversation With the House and Senate Appropriations Chairs and State Budget Director
Federal dollars and a little good luck helped Michigan balance its budget in 2020--but what if another round of relief doesn’t become available? How do you build a state budget amidst uncertainty about the future and when the pandemic recession might end? This session will feature key players from the House, Senate and Executive Office. We’ll peel back the onion on the appropriations process and discuss how, as Edward M. Gramlich, a budget expert at the University of Michigan, once observed, "One guy's pork is another guy's red meat."
