Event description

Description

Many people are feeling hopeless and directionless in the current state of affairs in our Cities, state, country, and world. People come to CAIR and organizations accross the county asking "what can I do"? This conference is in part an answer to this.

Educators, business professionals, students, non-profit workers, and other community members will join together to learn the ins-and-outs of Islamophobia. Who is hurt by Islamophobia? How is it instituted in our laws? How is it upheld by our society? And most importantly: how do we fight back?

Breakout sessions will address how Islamophobia affects public policy, the role of the media, and much more. Keynote subjects include how Islamophobia became mainstream, the impact of Islamophobia in Minnesota and abroad, and stories of resilience. Participants will come out of this conference with a renewed understanding of Islamophobia and more equipped to challenge Islamophobia in their own lives and work settings.

Diverse speakers will be in attendance from Stockholm to Iowa, including but not limited to:

Corey Saylor, Managing Director for Security and Rights for ReThink Media and former Director, Department to Monitor and Combat Islamophobia for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Dr. Hatem Bazian, founder of the Center for the Study and Documentation of Islamophobia, Rashid Musa of Sweden (head of Young Muslims of Sweden), Dr. Todd Green, Associate Professor of Religion at Luther College and nationally recognized expert on Islamophobia, Lori Saroya CAIR-National Chapter Development Director, Asma Jama, courageous survivor of a hateful Islamophobic attack, Mohamed Omar, executive director of the Dar Al Farooq Mosque in Bloomington Minnesota, among others.
