Challenging Behaviors in Dementia Care: Recognizing Unmet Needs
Sat, November 11, 2017, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM HST
Anger, physical reistance, and swearing are just a few of the challenging behaviors that can occur when a person has dementia. As a caregiver, any of these behaviors can leaave you feeling distressed, hurt, embarrassed and unappreciated.
Please join Dorothy Colby for a Positive Approach to Care™ workshop, developed by Teepa Snow (www.teepasnow.com), that will provide essential information on how to have a positive and meaningful relationship with loved ones with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia throughout their journey. This seminar will help care providers, family members, and anyone who is trying to cope with the challenging behaviors that happen with dementia.
This 2-hour workshop will help learners understand which physical and emotional needs can cause challenging behaviors. Learn hands-on techniques to connect and comfort using visual, verbal, physical and emotional connections. Learn to develop new skills related to approach, cueing, and ability to connect with people affected by dementia to help reduce the chance of future escalations and make your person with dementia feel at ease.
Participants will receive handouts of the material covered. Refreshments will be provided. Other Positive Approach to Care™ resources will be available for purchase.
