Description

This training is offered twice on July 22. First session is 8am-12pm and second session is 1pm-5pm.

The training will cover:

  • Definitions, statistics, regulatory framework
  • Abuse dynamics including risk factors
  • Challenges in congregate living settings: barriers for victims and considerations for providers
  • Morbidity/mortality data, forensic markers of abuse
  • Financial exploitation, risk factors and warning sign
  • Fiduciary duties and substitute decision making (powers of attorney, health care directives; guardianship)
  • Primary prevention framework, resources

Continuing Education:

Social Work CEUs: 4 hours

Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Advocates: 2.5 domestic violence hours pre-approved

Board of Nursing CEUs: 3.5 contact hours

The event is FREE!

Our presenter for this training is Marit Peterson. Marit Anne Peterson is the Program Director for the Minnesota Elder Justice Center. Prior to joining the Elder Justice Center, Marit practiced estate planning and elder law in the twin cities metro area. Marit currently serves as the chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association's Elder Law section, and is a member of the Probate and Trust Law section. Marit is also an adjunct faculty member at Augsburg University in the Philosophy Department, where she teaches ethics and bioethics in the adult undergraduate program. Marit has provided training on issues affecting older and vulnerable adults, safety and autonomy to regional and national audiences; and serves on the steering committee for Minnesota's Working Interdisciplinary Network of Guardianship Stakeholders (WINGS).
