Event description

Description

Do you have students, clients, or patients who can't get down on the floor due to age, weight, disability or inflexibility? Would you like to teach at hospitals, senior centers, or nursing homes? Chair yoga can bring the benefits of yoga to those unable to take part in a traditional yoga class.

Chair yoga is a modality that allows us to modify yoga poses so that they can be done while seated in a chair. These modifications make yoga accessible to people who cannot stand or lack the mobility to move easily. While seated on chairs, students can do versions of twists, hip stretches, forward bends, and mild backbends.

Chair yoga offers many of the same health benefits of yoga such as improved strength, increased flexibilities, better breathing, stress reduction, pain management, improved sleep quality, and an overall sense of well-being.

Chair yoga classes are appropriate for just about any practitioner, but are excellent for adapting poses for seniors, people with bigger bodies, and people with neurological impairments. Chair yoga is a great way to bring yoga to the office, too!

This course is for anyone interested in teaching chair yoga, including healthcare professionals, yoga teachers, and yoga teachers in training. Upon completion, you'll earn a certificate in Chair Yoga from Wise Owl School of Yoga. Those who have completed a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training may receive 20 hours of Continuing Education hours through Yoga Alliance.

Tuition includes a manual and access to online training videos.

In this training, you will learn to:

    • Teach a one-hour accessible chair yoga class
    • Choose appropriate postures and breathing techniques
    • Identify precautions and contraindications
    • Understand anatomy and alignment for chair poses
    • Incorporate meditation, relaxation, and breathing techniques to improve health and well-being

Prerequisites:

  • Must have at least 15 hours of yoga class experience.
  • For Yoga Teachers wishing to receive 20 Continuing Education hours, you must have completed a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training.
  • Eagerness to learn how to modify yoga poses using a chair to make yoga more accessible
