Math Inquiry

Workshop Descriptor:

In this workshop participants will identify factors that support inquiry in the teaching and learning of mathematics and have the opportunity to plan for inquiry in their own classrooms.  Participants will journey through a process of self reflection, access current research and thinking in this area and collaboratively plan and investigate mathematics concepts and pedagogy.

Participants will:

Reflect on their current practice and inquire into current research and pedagogy

Develop a deeper understanding of mathematics and inquiry

Develop strategies to support mathematical inquiry

Plan a unit/learning engagements where students will be able to inquire into a mathematical concept(s).


Elementary practitioners 


What to Bring: 

Participants will need to bring Mathematics documents they use at your school, i.e. scope and sequence documents, curriculum documents, blank planner


Workshop Leader Biography: Rebecca Clements

Bec Clements is currently the Senior Education Officer for the English Schools Foundation in Hong Kong.  Bec has been an educator for 17 years and has worked as a classroom teacher, special needs teacher, PYP Coordinator/VP and a PYP Learning and Teaching Advisor at a range of schools including Discovery College (HK), and Immanuel Primary (Adelaide).

Bec is an International Baccalaureate (IB) and MLATS Workshop Leader, IB School visitor, consultant and mathematics curriculum developer. She is currently finishing an International Masters in Education Leadership and Change and IB certificate in research and leadership at Hong Kong Institute of Education. She is passionate about the teaching and learning of mathematics and has a special interest in student initiated inquiry and ensuring there is challenge for all learners.

1.00 - 1.45       Lunch (lunch provided)

Sunday 2 October

11.00 - 1.00      Session Five (conclusion of workshop)



All participants will receive a certificate of participation for the workshop.



Early Bird Fee: US$260

Registration fee after the 31 August 2016: US$290

Registration fee after the 31 September 2016: US$320


Cancellation Policy

Please note that each workshop will proceed based on participant registration. Innovative Global Education will inform you by 1 September, 2016 if the workshop is to be cancelled. If the workshop is cancelled your full payment will be reimbursed.


Workshop Participation

If Innovative Global Education is informed by 1 September, 2016 that a participant is unable to attend the workshop, a full refund will be given. If notification of not being able to participate is after 1 September, 2016 IGE will be unable to refund the registration fee. 

If, for any reason, a school needs to either transfer a registered participant to another workshop from the workshop registered or change the name of the participant attending a workshop, Innovative Global Education can make these changes on request from school or participant.
