Event description

Description

A lot of conferences will require you to submit a Call For Papers (CFP), which means you write a short abstract about your unique talk idea. Your submission will then be reviewed by the conference organizers during the selection process. Many factors play into account if you get selected, so sometimes, it will take many applications.

This workshop is for anyone who wants to learn how to write a good CFP that has good chances of being selected. It is initiated by the VoxxedDays Zurich conference organizers to motivate new speakers from diverse backgrounds to participate in their CFP, which is closing on November 24th. At the end of the workshop, you can submit your abstract to VoxxedDays Zurich or any other conference of interest.

Why should I speak at a conference?
Attending conferences gives you many networking opportunities with your industry, potential clients, and new colleagues. Also, being a speaker provides you more exposure than a regular attendee. You will also be invited to exclusive events and premises complementing the conference, where you will meet international speakers and the event organizers. Speaking will make you approachable for attendee discussions and feedback, which will lead to new insights and ideas to bring home. You will gain reputation in your field, and it is also extremely beneficial for your company. Conferences often cover speaker travel and accommodation fees; this is great to grow your network internationally.

I don’t know what to speak about...
A common misconception is that only experts speak at conferences. However, the most important thing attendees seek is to learn about unknown concepts around technology and to get inspired. As individuals, we have unique perspectives, knowledge, and interests that we can share with others. In this workshop, we will help you brainstorm exciting topics that are tailored to you and find the right conference to apply to. Many conferences also offer first-time speaker mentoring, so you feel most prepared for your talk.

I am not good in front of crowds…
Many renowned speakers have stated that they are introverted and still get nervous before a presentation. Stage fright is entirely reasonable for most humans. For introverts, a conference can be exhausting. But if you avoid talking to anyone – it can hurt your career and business. As a speaker, you will get approached by attendees, and you can skip the pressure of doing small-talk as you can jump right into a discussion about your field of interest. Access to speaker rooms enables introverts to have enough down-time away from the crowd.
