CFOs as Ethical Leaders
hosted by
The Silicon Valley CFO Leadership Council
Thursday, October 18, 2018
7:30 AM to 8 AM Networking | 8 AM to 9:15 AM Program

Above technical prowess and strategic vision, great CFOs possess strong ethics that govern their decision-making. Each stakeholder within a company, as well as the greater community, relies on the CFO for integrity and transparency. As such, it’s not surprising that CFOs are more likely than others to face ethical dilemmas.

Join us for "CFOs as Ethical Leaders," an interactive session where our expert speaker will dive into a few real-world ethical dilemmas. Have an ethical quandary you'd like Professor Kirk O. Hanson to address? Please email the President of the CFO Leadership Council, Jack McCullough, at jack@cfolc.com. We guarantee your anonymity.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define business ethics and apply this definition to business decisions in a thoughtful and pragmatic manner.
  • Appreciate the “gray” ethical areas that are routinely faced by financial executives and the processes they undergo to arrive at their decisions.
  • Understand how financial executives analyze ethical quandaries and balance the needs of all stakeholders to arrive at a decision that is consistent with ethical standards, law, regulations, accounting and business standards, and community standards.
  • Apply real-life lessons to an ethical decision you will have to make in leading your organizations.
  • Improve your ability to communicate ethical challenges to your constituents, and inspire their confidence in your ability to represent their interests in a consistent, fair, and ethical manner.

 About Our Speaker:

Kirk O. Hanson just stepped down as Executive Director of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University and the John Courtney Murray SJ University Professor of Social Ethics.  He has been Senior Lecturer Emeritus at the Stanford Graduate School of Business for 23 years and for the last 17 years at Santa Clara.  He built the Markkula Center into the largest university-based ethics center in the world, with expertise in business ethics, government ethics, medical ethics, internet and technology ethics, leadership ethics, character development, and nonprofit ethics.  He has consulted with over 100 companies on the design of their ethics and compliance programs and has been widely honored for his contributions to ethics in American life.
