CEU Session Description:

This session will focus on emotional challenges, difficulties and trials that foster children, biological family members and foster parents all face. During the presentation, participants will learn about the realities of burnout, stress, trauma, loss and grief for all involved when dealing with displacement and reunification, as well as become equipped with strategies designed to best address the stress that comes with this time of loss.

At the end of this training you will be equipped with strategies designed to assist foster parents during the transition of placement. These strategies include:

  • Learning how to gather vital and necessary background information before placement

  • How to recognize feelings of stress and loss and how to best respond to these emotions

  • How to prepare a foster child and birth family beforehand

  • How to prepare a foster home beforehand

  • How to work with a caseworker during times of trauma and stress

  • How to appropriately prepare the home dependent upon the foster child's age bracket and make sure that it's safe

  • Strategies designed for handling the first few days of placement during this time of transition
