Description

Topic: Opportunities and Challenges in Cervical Cancer Control in Guatemala

The goal of this workshop is to bring together stakeholders and researchers from the US and Guatemala to assess the challenges and opportunities of cervical cancer prevention and control. In low/middle-income countries in Central America, fragile health systems and limited government resources can exacerbate sociocultural barriers and health disparities. This collaboration between Georgetown University, Rafael Landivar University, the Guatemalan Ministry of Health, and the National Cancer Institute seeks to address gaps in the evidence base for cervical cancer outcomes, discuss findings, and share potential action steps. Our two-day workshop emphasizes opportunities to evaluate trends in cervical cancer control and brainstorm potential interventions to reduce cervical cancer burden via low cost solutions such as mHealth. This approach allows for a comprehensive examination of the cervical cancer continuum in Guatemala, where most women present with advanced stage disease at diagnosis.

Please join us for an engaging workshop on the current landscape and potential advancements in the field of cervical cancer in Guatemala. Be sure to sign up to reserve a seat and receive updates about our event. We anticipate at least one grant proposal and a manuscript to develop from this workshop. We will also develop media for dissemination.

With best wishes,

Dejana Braithwaite, Joaquin Barnoya and José Monzón
