Event description

Leading an agile project is radically different from conventional project management. Rather than plan, instruct and direct, the leader of a Scrum team (called a ScrumMaster) facilitates, coaches and leads. Certified ScrumMaster training prepares participants to step fully into the role of ScrumMaster.

During this interactive, dynamic two-day course, your instructor Kert Peterson will share proven, real-world experiences and techniques for implementing Scrum and show you how you can be successful with Scrum. Through short, focused lectures that examine each piece of the Scrum framework, the class will engage in several small group activities to reinforce each topic and maximize your understanding and retention of Scrum.

You will learn from Kert's experiences, and the experiences of other attendees, what works and what does not work with Scrum. Throughout the course, you will learn several Innovation Games® to increase your effectiveness with Scrum. Further, you will have a blast learning as there is minimal PowerPoint slides in this class.

Benefits of Scrum

Since being invented in 1995 by Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland, the Scrum development framework has been leveraged by teams across industries to:

  • Reduce upfront planning time
  • Manage changing requirements
  • Realize incremental ROI
  • Increase visibility and control
  • Avoid schedule and cost overruns

What You Will Learn

Using interactive presentation, real-world case studies, and team-based problem-solving exercises, this two-day training teaches participants how to:

  • Plan, initiate and lead a Scrum-driven project or initiative
  • Generate and manage an agile release plan
  • Build and manage a product backlog that reflects customer and business needs
  • Effectively lead your team in the 4 key scrum events
  • Engage and align business stakeholders in your development effort

Certified ScrumMaster® Test

You will become a Certified ScrumMaster® once you pass the CSM test. After you receive your welcome email, you have two opportunities within 90 days to pass the test at no cost. After up to two attempts within 90 days, there’s a $25 charge for each additional attempt.

The questions on the CSM test are based on the CSM Content Outline Learning Objectives established for this course. You may also want to refer to the Agile Atlas, not only for the test but also as you apply Scrum every day.

You must answer 24 of the 35 multiple choice questions correctly to pass. Plan to spend about an hour on the test, although you don’t need to take it all at one time. You can stop and restart as many times as you need. You can also skip, go back, and bookmark questions to review later. If you have any unanswered questions, you’ll see a warning message when you click “submit.” Once you submit your answers, your test results will immediately appear on your screen.

It's an open book, online test and needs to be completed within 30 days of completion of the class.
