Event description

NOTE: You can also sign up for our Certified Scrum Master -- presented in English -- earlier this week at the same location. More information at iWantScrumTraining.com/Costa-Rica.

My name is Michael Vizdos and I've presented the multiple Certified Scrum Master and Product Owner Workshops in Costa Rica over the past ten years. I helped start -- and am still involved with -- the Costa Rica Agile Scrum User Group community.

Catherine and Michael have trained most of the people in Costa Rica with the CSPO designation from the Scrum Alliance and share their current experiences with you throughout the two days.

This CSPO Training is an immersive and interactive experiential workshop.

Over two days in San Jose, Costa Rica, you will experience what it is like to work on a Scrum Team from the perspective of a Product Owner.

Here is what you can experience....

This highly interactive 2-day workshop is for creators of products who are passionate about delighting their customer by solving their true needs.

It is a hands on workshop offering the essentials of the Certified Product Owner course with certification from the Scrum Alliance (the trusted source of certifications in the world), plus a toolkit full of product discovery, design and development tools to help kickstart your next product idea.

You can apply these concepts immediately following the workshop to #DELIVER results to your customers and end users.

Who is this for?

The course is for anyone who wants to lead a product development effort; this includes Agile Product Managers Scrum Product Owners and also people actively contributing to product development in as a Scrum team member (Designer, Scrum Masters, or Change Agent, for example.)

Day 1: Laying the foundation

  • We begin with data gathering from the group, taking the pulse of the needs of the attendees. Heat maps, leadership surveys and effective user interview techniques are used to pinpoint the pain points of Product Ownership felt by the group to create a safe space for product exploration.

  • Design Thinking techniques are then used to ideate and prototype, validate, and test your assumptions. We’ll have our first go at pitching a vision quite early here on Day one!

  • Just before lunch, we’ll have a Scrum Chalk Talk to cover the basics of Scrum.

  • After lunch, we’ll have a retrospective to see how we’re doing. We’ll use this as input into the remainder of the events for today.

  • Then we’ll be shifting focus to learn about Change Agent tools to help with eradicating organizational blockers enabling Agile product development. Anything that is our current impediment to delivering in a lean and Agile fashion is fair game for us to tackle here. We’ll be learning about Scrum in this exercise, actively learning by doing to experience roles, artifacts, team dynamics, and the flow of product development in a 59 minute micro-scrum exercise.

  • We’ll close the day with group exercise on using the Agile Manifesto as a diagnostic tool for product development soundly based in values that respect people.

Day 2:Building the House

  • We’ll begin the day with a quick table-top exercise showing how reducing waste in the system (from concept to cash) can bring extreme value to your organization. This is essential to eradicate silo’d behavior and a wonderful teaching tool that the attendees can take and quickly benefit from back in the real world.

  • We’ll focus on the role and value of the Product Owner with interactive exercises to challenging the comfort zone for what is needed for igniting Organizational change in 21th century.

  • Just before lunch we’ll cover Radical Management.

  • After lunch, we’ll have the opportunity to do full product development, from Product Discovery and Visioning through to delivery. We will be “learning by doing” covering the following topics:

  • Story Mapping

  • User Story Writing

  • Release Planning

  • Value-Driven Development in Sprints

  • Using the Agile Manifesto as a Retrospective too

Certified Scrum Product Owner Training

The course includes the Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Product Owner. After completing the course:

  • You have the option to be registered with the Scrum Alliance as a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) (no additional effort, testing, or cost required.)

  • You have the option to apply for 15 PMP PDUs with the Project Management Institute, satisfying 15 of the required training hours for the new PMI-ACP (PMI-Agile Certified Practitioner.)

There is currently NO TEST from the Scrum Alliance to become a Certified Product Owner.

Over time, you'll also have the opportunity to keep in touch with us. And if you don't want to hear from us again, it's OK too. I'll give you advice along the way and you'll have real life access to me even after the training is completed.

I want you to succeed.

I am here to help.
