The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a 20-hour all hazard training offered to all by the Office of Emergency (OES) Services.

About this event

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a 20-hour all hazard training offered by Morgan Hill and Gilroy Offices of Emergency Services. The training is designed for anyone to protect themselves, their family, their neighbors, and their neighborhood in an emergency situation.

During the training residents will learn: Disaster Preparedness, Fire Safety, Disaster Medical Operations and Triage, Light Search and Rescue, Team Organization, Disaster Psychology, Terrorism & the Incident Command.

Due to the pandemic, the CERT basic training is now being offered as a combination of online training and a one-day hands-on skills training. The online ZOOM training will be a bi-weekly class estimated to take 12-hours from Aug 30 to Sep 24.

The in-person skills portion of the class is taught from 8:50am to 4:00pm on Sat, Sep 24. Location will be TBD.

IMPORTANT: You must be registered and receive an email confirmation to attend the classes. Attendance required on all days for certification. Participants aged 12 to 17 years may attend with a parent or legal guardian.

COVID-19: The in-person skills portion of the class will be taught partly outdoors (rain or shine), in small groups, in a fashion that complies with all applicable public health orders. Individuals who are at high risk for COVID-19 due to pre-existing health conditions should not sign up for this class. If public health orders become more restrictive, the in-person skills portion of the class may need to be rescheduled or canceled.
