Event Details

On this practical ceramics course you can further explore the already learned key skills of wheel throwing. Explore how the symmetry of the wheel thrown pot can be altered to enhance rims and compositions within sets of pots. Learn how pots can be cut and reassembled into minimal as well as more complex shapes. All work will be decorated using a variety of coloured glazes.

What will I learn?

By the end of the course, you will be able to

  • Identify a range of clays
  • Understand basic clay/glaze technology.
  • Further develop previously learned wheel throwing skills.
  • Aim to increase the size and sophistication of pottery.
  • Explore thrown and altered pottery forms.
  • Face technical challenges and find practical and creative solutions through practice.

What are the entry requirements?

Ideally, you will have completed our wheel throwing course or have experience of using a wheel. This course if for the more advanced learner.

Is this the right course for me?

This course is suitable for you if you want to:

  • Further develop practical as well as design skills.
  • Learn/improve a range of techniques needed to make utilitarian or decorative ceramic objects on the potter’s wheel. Make functional/decorative pottery.
  • Explore shape and form, colour, texture and surface.
  • Socialize in a friendly creative environment.

Your teacher will assess your skills during a short practical pinch pot exercise to make sure this is the right class for you.

What can I do after this course?

Our learners go on to use their skills in their lives in many different ways; some go on to a  more advanced course or sell their work and develop a small business. Others use their skills to find work or to go up the career ladder. Some just enjoy being creative, active and sociable.

If you need business skills, find out about our passion to profit courses.
