Event description

Description

Students will learn foundational techniques of working with clay, with a focus on throwing on an electric wheel. The first segment of the class will be a mini-lecture, where students will learn the basics of working with clay from start to finish: types of clay, tools and materials, a little about construction, drying in preparation to be bisque-fired, glazing, and final firing. The second segment will be hands-on. Students will use forge-provided tools and clay to practice techniques with instruction. Due to the timeline of ceramic work (as well as studio storage reasons), students should not expect to leave with a fully completed project. This is just an introductory open-ended course to teach them about tools and materials, construction techniques, and a general overview of the entire process so that they may be able to create their own work in the future.
