Event description

Description

At this pioneering event, you will join a select group of up to 25 charity CEOs and chairs to discuss how to support CEOs and charities to thrive when the CEO goes on parental leave.

The event will start with an inspirational panel sharing their own experiences. In the subsequent round table discussion, we will identify together how we can move to a place where leaders with babies can continue to thrive in their leadership careers and how charities can plan effectively so they can flourish before, during and after the CEO is on parental leave.

Together, we will aim to come up with useful and practical recommendations how to support individual CEOs and organisations when the CEO goes on parental leave.

This event is baby inclusive, you are very welcome to bring a baby along. Gurgling and other baby noises explicitely allowed!

Why this event?

Planning well for CEOs’ parental leave is operation critical and a moral imperative for every charity. But all too often, parental leave is a source of anxiety for the CEOs having babies and for their organisations. Too many charities feel forced to worry about continuity, and too many CEOs are unsure whether they can continue a leadership career once they have a baby. It shouldn’t be that way. That is why Society and Leaders Plus have decided to bring together charity CEOs and chairs to define best practice, and to learn what doesn’t work and what does. We believe maternity, shared parental and adoption leave should be a normal part of a leadership career and core to organisations’ personnel planning. We believe that this group of CEOs and chairs have some important answers and will be able to make useful and practical recommendations that will be of benefit to individual CEOs and charities, as well as the wider system. We believe that to make a real change in parents’ career trajectories, the leaders at the very top need to be able to combine career and family. This event is designed to give charity leaders a platform to ensure the sector becomes a best practice example.

The event is baby inclusive, this means:

  • there will be at space to park your buggy

  • it is absolutely fine for babies to cry, gurgle and babble during the event: think baby cinema meets leadership development event. Feel free to get up during the event, change the baby, feed, walk around, sit on the floor, or do whatever else makes you and your baby feel comfortable.
