Event description
ALL DAY VIRTUAL EVENT - International touring artists, Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams, headline 2021 Central Ohio Folk Festival!

About this Event

A unique, engaging, and interactive experience with something for everyone, including the kids! This is the 24th annual festival produced by the Columbus Folk Music Society and co-sponsored by WCBE 90.5FM.

Virtually broadcast Main Stage features an eclectic range of roots music: folk, bluegrass, old-time, Americana and more — including performances by The Shazzbots, RJ Cowdery, The Wayfarers, The Relentless Mules, Daniel Dye & The Miller Road Band, Whinestopper and Starlit Ways (aka Chris & Rose).

– Some highlights: The Shazzbots (kids music) have a triple Emmy winning TV show for kids and have toured extensively; RJ Cowdery is an exceptionally skilled singer-songwriter and has appeared on NPR's Mountain Stage and played festivals such as The Kerrville Folk Festival, Rocky Mountain Folk Festival, and Vancouver Island Folk Festival amongst others and The Wayfarers have been featured on the national PBS television series Song of the Mountains, toured much of the Midwest and Southern Appalachians and have shared the stage with some of the biggest names in bluegrass and country music; including Ralph Stanley, Ricky Skaggs, Lonesome River Band, and Jerry Douglas amongst others.

Festival Headliner (Saturday evening) is Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams, an Americana duo that creates riveting, honest-emotion music: Avalon Theatre (Easton, MD) says: “they bring a lot to the table, they bring the table itself — plus the house, the still, the church, the sawdust-covered floor, and abiding, unconditional love, all carried in two voices harmonizing across hills, hollers [and] porches. Their close harmonies ride atop music made in a mountain refuge connected to a spirit that lives on in song.”

Larry Campbell is perhaps most widely known as a member of Bob Dylan’s tour band from 1997 to 2004 and musical director, band leader and co-writer with the Levon Helm Band for another 7 years. Both Campbell and Williams are frequent collaborators with other artists with a shortlist that reads like a Who’s Who of music icons: Emmy Lou Harris, Paul Simon, Judy Collins, Phil Lesh, Little Feat, Hot Tuna and Jorma Kaukonen amongst others.

A review of their Contraband Love (2015) album summarizes the duo well: “musically, Contraband Love revisits the Americana textures of the duo’s debut, deftly channeling Memphis, Chicago, the Delta, and Appalachia with equal assurance. Larry’s world-famous guitar work — scorching here, funky there, stellar always — punctuates the proceedings with riveting emotion, often like a third voice weighing in on a myriad of emotional states.” This is a ‘not to be missed’ experience!

Other festival events include: 7 interactive music workshops covering instruments such as the ukulele, guitar, banjo and old-time fiddle and multiple hours of interactive children’s programming, including crafts.

Tickets: the festival site is accessible via ticket purchase only: $15 individual / $25 household and it gains you access to ALL festival events on that day.
