Description

The John M. Langston Citizens Association would like to invite you to be a part of the Centennial Celebration for the Arlington County’s Halls Hill Fire Station 8 taking place January 26, 2019, 2-6pm at National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, 4301 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22203. Formed in 1918, Fire Station 8 is said to the first all-black fire station formed south of the Mason Dixon Line and still standing today! For 100 years the men and women of Fire Station 8 have served the communities of Arlington County Virginia selflessly, and with honor. Not only did they serve, but they served segregated, and unrecognized by the County for almost 40 years. Fire Station 8 has not only changed history and the future of blacks in the fire service, but is getting ready to have a change in look too. The cramped two-bay facility has been approved for expansion to support the growing High View Park/Halls Hill community it serves. So, our celebration is very special, because we’re not only honoring the history and those who’ve paved the way, but also honoring the continuing legacy of Fire Station 8.

The program is dynamic chronicling Fire Station 8’s 100 years of legacy and impact. Additionally, on display will be history and memorabilia associated with Fire Station 8, and the plans for the new facility.

Your time, support, and favorable response are appreciated. Please send any questions that you may have to infohighviewpark@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Fire Station 8 Community Celebration Committee
