Event description

Description

The U.S. census is a critical component of a functioning democracy and a just society. Accurate census data is essential for the fair distribution of political representation at the national, state and local levels, and for the equitable allocation of government resources. In Missouri, $11.2 billion in funding is distributed based on 10-year census derived statistics. In Kansas, it’s $4.4 billion.

However, the census has historically missed disproportionate numbers of racial minorities, immigrants, young children and the poor, leading to decades of inequality in political power, government funding and private-sector investment in these communities.

Although communities cannot and should not supplant the government’s responsibility to ensure a fair and accurate census, community engagement in support of the census is more important than ever. Join us on Friday, November 2 as we mobilize an effort for an accurate 2020 census in the Kansas City region that will help ensure that every community receives its fair share of representation and resources.

Who should attend:

  • Nonprofit leaders and associations
  • Business leaders and associations
  • Local government staff and elected officials
  • Faith community leaders
  • Social justice advocates
  • Foundation staff and trustees
  • Education leaders

*Registration ends at close of business on Monday, October 29, 2018.
