Enjoy an entire day with our favorite Celtic music artists, featuring The Appalachian Highlanders, Tuatha Dea, Tempest, and a reunion appearance by the band, Coyote Run! Dance a jig, come rain or shine! Don’t forget to visit our Beer Garden and food vendors!

Artist Bios

Appalachian Highlanders Pipes & Drums
Based in Abingdon, VA, the Appalachian Highlanders Pipes & Drums unite enthusuiasts from all over southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee who share a common love for the thrilling sound of the Great Highlands Bagpipe. Experience their amazing sound as they make their 17th appearance at the Virginia HIGHLANDS Festival as part of the Celtic Ceilidh!

Since forming in 1988, Tempest has delivered a globally-renowned hybrid of high-energy Folk Rock fusing Irish reels, Scottish ballads, Norwegian influences, and other world music elements. In the last twenty-eight years, this act from the San Francisco Bay Area released fifteen critically acclaimed CDs, played more than 2,000 gigs, and enjoys an evolving line-up enabling musicianship and creativity to rise with each new member.

Hailing from Oslo, Norway, founding member and lead singer/electric mandolinist, Lief Sorbye, is recognized as a driving force in the modern folk-rock movement. San Francisco fiddler, Kathy Buys, brings her international award-winning playing and experience playing Irish and traditional music to the Tempest stage. Driving in from the North Bay area is Josh Fossgreen, an exceptional musical talent whose innovative bass textures add a rich dimension to the Tempest soundscape. Northern California’s own young Indian-American progressive guitarist, Ab Menon, skids to a flaming stop on the Tempest stage, replete with flying dreadlocks, dazzling string stylings and a sense of ticklish fun. Cuban born Adolfo Lazo, an original Tempest member, colors the band’s sound with inventive thythms, and rock-steady drumming.

Tuatha Dea
Tuatha Dea (too-ah-thah dee-ah) is based in Gatlinburg, TN and has toured extensively in the U.S. and Canada over the last seven years. Dubbed “The Eclectic Partridge Family in Kilts and Corsets”, as well as “The Appalachian Fae”, Tuatha Dea has been featured at a wide variety of events with much fanfare headlining as featured artists for National Fan Conventions, Celtic Festivals and Highland Games, Renaissance Festivals, interactive drumming events, and stand alone concerts. Their diveristy and quality of performance has gained then thousands of fans while their music has received critical acclaim. Their onstage energy will certainly captivate any audience.

Coyote Run
Returning to the stage for an all-too-brief reunion tour, nationally known Celtic Rock band Coyote Run brings their signature style of musical storytelling to the Virginia Highlands Festival once more! Founded in 2000, Coyote Run has toured throughout the U.S., Canada, England, Ireland, and Scotland. Featuring the talents of: David Doersch, lead singer/bagpipes; his wife and longtime musical partner, Catherine Doersch, drums/ vocals; Arthur Rowan, keyboard/vocals; Michael Kazalski, bass/vocals; Daniel Nelson, guitar; and Chelle Fulk, fiddle. Labeled “The Thinking Person’s Celtic Rock band,” Coyote Run has always charted their own path with tight harmonies, driving rhythms, soaring bagpipes, and original music based in Celtic legend and myth. Sharing their hilarious stories from years on the road, this band continues to delight audiences from coast to coast.
