Event description
Help us celebrate the life of our regular Shirley Glass, a fierce Michigan wine lover and one of our most ardent supporters!

About this event

Join us as we celebrate the life of one of our longtime MBTB Sipper Club members, Shirley Glass.

Shirley passed away Aug. 29 at the age of 78, after several months of health struggles. We are sorely missing her feisty spirit and passion for wine. In celebration of her life, we will be honoring her with an upbeat gathering at her favorite MBTB location, MBTB Shelby Township.

Shirley was well-known among MBTB regulars and staff, and was a frequent attendee at our winemaker's dinners, wine release parties, bus trips to wine country, pop-up food events with Wooden Whisk Creations, and more.

Shirley had an appreciation for the finer things in life — especially delicious Michigan reds! — and was a tremendously passionate supporter of Michigan wine in general and MBTB specifically.

We are so appreciative of Shirley's unbridled enthusiasm for our mission to expose more Metro Detroiters to amazing Michigan wine, and we have so much gratitude for her presence in our lives these past few years, as both a friend and generous customer.

Tickets for the memorial are $25 and include heavy appetizers by Wooden Whisk Creations and a glass of wine of your choice (up to $12 value).

All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Shirley Glass Endowed Accounting Scholarship at Macomb Community College, where Shirley was a professor for 55 years.

Shirley established this scholarship in 2015 to help students to pursue their education in the field of accounting. Hired at MCC in 1966, Shirley was the first faculty member hired in the college's Accounting Department and was instrumental in helping grow the it to the largest community college accounting program in the state of Michigan. Over her time at MCC, she led more than 600 classes and contributed to the education of thousands of students.

** Please note that ticket purchase is NOT required to attend. If you'd merely like to stop in to remember Shirley without eating/drinking, you're certainly welcome to do so. A cash bar also will be available. However, if you would like to partake in the food and support the scholarship fund, we kindly ask that you purchase a ticket in advance so we can plan accordingly. **

Some of Shirley's friends will be sharing a few words in remembrance during the gathering, and we invite you to do the same, if you like!

We look forward to raising a glass of Michigan wine in honor of a life well-lived — we know that's what Shirley would have wanted!

Unable to attend but want to donate to the scholarship fund? Donations can be mailed directly to: MCC Foundation, C/O Shirley Glass Scholarship, 14500 E. 12 Mile Road, Warren, MI 48088.
