The Program of Eisenhower Fellowships provides life changing experiences for fellows through customized itinerary of visits and consultations with American leaders designed to provide specific professional insights, a network of contacts, and a broadened international perspective. The Eisenhower Fellowship program is individually designed based on the Fellow's interests, background and objectives. Our intention is to give a broad perspective on trends in specific fields in the U.S., opportunities to exchange ideas with leading professionals, and specific information on how individual practitioners are managing change and development.

To maximize EF’s real-world impact, Fellows are required to identify and execute concrete projects after they return home and leverage their talents through mentorship and collaboration with the network and other partners. These projects and initiatives are poised to create positive impact across sectors and borders and speak to the transformative nature of the fellowship experience, in which we emphasize on annual EF Day.

For this year, this is the theme:Promoting Local Values Towards Progressive Indonesia

Indonesia is a country seeped in an astonishing array of cultures and traditions. With over 300 ethnic groups and more than 300 native languages spoken across a country covering the distance from London to Tehran, or Anchorage, Alaska to Washington, DC, Indonesia is one of the most diverse countries on the planet—but it is these differences that bind us together. From Sabang to Merauke, Indonesia is an archipelago of over 17,000 islands and boasts a population of more than 260 million, or one in every 30 people on the planet, as of 2018. With such vast geographical area and high population, however, Indonesia faces its own set of unique challenges. Indonesia’s motto “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika”, which means “Unity in Diversity,” means more today than ever.

With globalization and the impending entanglements of the modern world, traditional cultures and local values are slowly fading away from Indonesian culture, especially in the urban cities. The unique differences in communities, once seen as the crown jewels of the world’s largest archipelago, are now seen as factors that easily divide the nation. The upcoming 2019 Presidential Election is shaping up as the perfect opportunity to unite the nation once again and bringing generations back to the true meaning of “Unity in Diversity,” while reigniting pride in local values and traditions, putting them on display for the next generation, especially those who live in the urban areas.

Over the past 60 years, Fellows have discovered numerous ways to draw upon their fellowship experiences and compound the benefits gained. EF encourages Fellows to commemorate the day by joining with other Fellow to strengthen ties with one another, renew international dialogues and continue to promote understanding and collaboration.
