Description

Presentation, Panel and Reflections by Fans, Editors and Instructors

Featuring novelists Michael Jaime-Becerra (This Time Tomorrow) and Michelle Latiolais (She)

Editors, faculty advisors and fans of six celebrated local literary journals gather to celebrate, consider and unshyly booster their own projects and to consider the enduring role of campus-sponsored magazines of creative and critical writing. With laudatory personal remarks on the importance of “lit mags” to their own writing and reading lives, authors Jaime-Becerra and Latiolais, both UCI alums, invite students and the larger community of readers and writers to read, subscribe to and help sustain campus journals as expressions of imagination and engagement in the literary arts and civic life.

Panel participants include students, staff and faculty representatives from UCI’s own Faultline and Kiosk, Irvine Valley College’s long-running The Ear, UC Riverside’s Mosaic, Orange Coast College’s Orange Coast Review, and Santa Monica Review, celebrating its thirtieth anniversary as a project of Santa Monica College

Panel, led by Santa Monica Review editor Andrew Tonkovich:

Professor Virginia Shank, Irvine Valley College

Professor Erik Rangno, Orange Coast College

Patricia Pearson, UCI Literary Journalism

Ross Green, editor, Faultline (UCI)

Rema Shbaita, editor, Mosaic (UCR)

Sponsored by Illuminations, the Department of English and Literary Journalism Program

FREE COPIES of back issues of many of the magazines will be available to attendees.
