The music of the Caribbean reflects the multi-cultural influences that have shaped the Caribbean and African people. The Caribbean people brought music, such as bachata, cadence rampa, calypso, chutney, compas (kompa), cumbia, dancehall, filmi, Latin trap, méringue, merengue, parang, ragga, rapso, reggae, salsa, and zouk, which has a profound impact on U.S. popular culture.

It's your night to be a star! (OPEN MIC AT SAiD) AfroSOUNDS is part of SAiD Pan African Library participatory IN-HOUSE program, SAID – can make that dream come true! This new program invites local performing artists of all experience levels to perform once a month at the Pan African Library stages with the House Band. All types of performances are welcome; poetry reading, music, comedy.  If you are interested in showcasing your art, please register below or call SAiD Reference desk at 415.871.7615. Society for Africans in the Diaspora (SAiD) is a non-profit American organization. Through various activities and our educational program, we are dedicated to to promoting mutual understanding and strengthening partnerships among peoples, leaders, and institutions of Africa and the United States in a global context. Across the fields of business, culture, arts, education, and policy, the Society provides insight, generates ideas, and promotes collaboration to address present challenges and create a shared future. We also foster Africa-America friendship and cross-cultural exchange through select tours in Africa and the US, lectures, conferences, awards and other events on both side of the Atlantic.
