Description

We LOVE the history and beauty of southwestern weavings at the Museum! Join us for a day dedicated to this beautiful art. Demo and talks are free for members and included with the price of Museum admission for non members. Please come early and enjoy the Museum’s permanent collection of Native American textiles as well as our special exhibition, Colors to Dye For, that explains the mysterious world of dye-making for these works of art.

12:30 to 1:00 - Velma Kee Craig, Navajo poet, film maker and Navajo weaver,demonstrates traditional Navajo weaving.

1:00 - 1:45 - Dennis Aigner, Professor Emeritus in the Paul Merage School of Business at UC Irvine and authorof "The Swastika Symbol in Navajo Textiles" will discuss the history and significance of the whirling log design in Navajo Textiles.

2:00 - 2:45 - Carolyn O'Bagy Davis, author of 15 books on the history of archaeology and quilting and western history, will speak about the history of Arizona Indian trading posts.

3:00 to 4:00 - Steve Getzwiller, owner of Nizhoni Ranch Gallery, noted expert and author of Navajo weavings books, will give pointers on on collecting Navajo Textiles.

Members: Free

Non Members: Free with the price of admission.

Veterans get in free on this day as a thank you for their service to the country.
