About this Event

To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Smith Opera House, we will be creating an immersive, site-specific theatre event that will bring the history of this building to life in a unique and thrilling fashion.

In one week, dozens of theatre artists will create an original work that focuses on artifacts that tell the Smith’s unique history. Performances will take place all over the building (mezzanine, cabaret, ladies lounge, lobby, balcony, etc.); the audience will move from one performance to the next and watch the history unfold.

The night ends with a Dance Party on the Smith's stage.

TREAT YOURSELF TO A VIP EXPERIENCE!

For $37.50, VIP ticket holders will gain pre-show admission to a cocktail party at HWS’ Bozzuto Center on Castle Street. This exclusive cocktail party will feature complimentary hors d'oeuvres from F2T Kitchen + Bar at the Ramada Geneva Lakefront Resort. Fabulous items will also be available to bid on at our SILENT AUCTION.

5:30-7:30 pm: VIP cocktail party with silent auction.

8:00 pm: First performance takes off

10:00 pm (ish): Dance Party on the Smith’s stage feat. WEOS DJ Kelly Walker; all ticket holders are invited.

WHAT MAKES THE SMITH SO UNIQUE?

The history of the Smith Opera House is vibrant, eclectic, and full of drama—on and off stage.

• Did you know that when it was constructed it was originally two buildings?

• Fighting at the Smith? Believe it or not, in the early 20th century our stage hosted boxing matches!

• Did you know that a theatre company slated to perform at the Smith was once quarantined on a boat in the middle of Seneca Lake because of a smallpox scare?

• The Smith and the occult, there’s a connection? William Smith, the principle benefactor of the building, had originally wanted the third floor dedicated to speaking to the deceased.

These interesting factoids and more will be uncovered and brought to life through this intriguing event.

CAN’T WAIT AND WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE SMITH?

If you are excited about the history, you can check our Smith History Blog weekly . Professor Woodworth and two of her students (plus a few guest bloggers here and there), have been researching the history of the building and uncovered some incredible stories that are incorporated into weekly history tours of the building, every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.
