Join your fellow foodies for a picnic at the beautiful IROEC inside Irvine Regional Park. We will be picnicking by the Life Science area. This includes a citrus orchard with several varieties of exotic citrus, an edible garden demonstrating a variety ofgrowing techniques for backyard growers, beehives, a budding Mediterranean food forest, developing pollinator gardens, and a bioswale for water management. This facility is often used by local public school science camp programs and was the recipient of our first 2014 Slow Food microgrant. More info can be found at the IROEC website.
In celebration of spring and to support our local food resources, bring a dish to share that uses local ingredients – from your backyard garden, a local farm, or a local artisan. Please bring your own place setting – plates, cutlery, napkins and drinking glasses. Water and iced tea will be provided; please bring any other beverages you wish to enjoy. We will be eating in a shaded pavilion area with picnic tables. Bring a tablecloth if you like. Wear comfortable clothing, a hat if desired, and shoes appropriate for walking on uneven ground. Kids are welcome; however, they should be supervised at all times and remain in the picnic area. No pets.
Steering Committee Meeting: At about 6:30 our steering committee will have a short monthly meeting. We invite all of you to join us in the meeting. If you are looking to get more involved with Slow Food, this is an opportunity to learn about the planning and organization of our chapter.
See you there!
