Volunteer with Repair The World Harlem and South Bronx United (SBU) for SBU's annual Literacy Day! Literacy Day is a part of South Bronx United's regular Saturday recreational program, except on this special day, thousands of books are set out for our SBU families and community members to take for free. Many hands are needed for:

  • Setting up book stations around the Macombs Dam Park track

  • Sorting/organizing books into age groups

  • Engaging and encouraging community members to take home books

  • Reorganizing book stations as they are being sorted through

  • Moving books to afternoon rec program location down the street

  • Breaking down and storage of leftover over books

We have shifts open for:

  • Macombs Dam Field:

    - 7:30am - 11am (3 spots)

    - 10:30am - 2:00pm (3 spots)

  • Mullaly Park:

    - 8am - 11am (2 spots)

    - 10:30am - 1:30pm (2 spots)

  • Patterson Park:

    - 12:30pm - 4pm (5 spots)

South Bronx United is a 501c3 nonprofit, youth development organization that uses soccer to engage immigrant and first-generation youth and support the broader South Bronx community. They serve more than 1,000 boys and girls aged 4-19, combining recreational and competitive youth soccer with academic enrichment, college prep, mentoring, health and wellness promotion, leadership development, immigration legal services, and other individual and family supports.
