About this event
June is Pride Month in NYC, and Lower Manhattan is in full celebration mode. The neighborhood has long been a place where people can feel safe to be seen for who they are. While the Village, Chelsea and parts of Brooklyn lay claim to rich and central dimensions of New York’s LGBTQ+ history, for over four centuries, gay, lesbian, trans and queer people have faced down adversity, struggled for their civil rights and built their lives right here downtown.
On June 29, join the Downtown Alliance and Alamo Drafthouse Lower Manhattan for a special screening of the queer cult classic But I’m a Cheerleader. Starring Natasha Lyonne, Clea Duvall, Melanie Lynskey and RuPaul, the 1999 satire follows a lesbian high school cheerleader whose parents send her to a conversion therapy camp and tackles topics such as gender roles and heteronormativity.
Tickets are $5 and include a free cocktail at Alamo Drafthouse’s Press Room bar. All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to Lambda Legal. Buy your ticket today – spots are limited!
Note: your Eventbrite ticket confirms your spot at the screening. You will receive your physical ticket and drink ticket onsite at Alamo Drafthouse. Seat assignments are first come; first served.
