Event description

Description

The Celebrate! Maya Project is pleased to announce its 5th Anniversary Celebration! Join us Oct. 18 as we celebrate five years of growing Arkansas dreams through scholarships, writing and literacy workshops, community programming and more with a reception at the Clinton Presidential Center. Our celebration will feature a live auction, live music from Rodney Block, poetry performance from Kai Coggin and a dance performance from Natoya England-Johnson. Regine Moore, director of multicultural marketing at Walmart, will provide the keynote address for the evening. Elliott Jones, Maya Angelou’s grandson and liaison to the Dr. Maya Angelou Foundation board, will also speak at the event.

Our celebration will also include the presentation of the 2019 Spirit of Maya Award, which honors those who epitomize Angelou’s commitment to bettering the world. Proceeds from the event benefit scholarships for youth poets and writers, and also support educational workshops and initiatives rooted in improving literacy among Arkansas youth. It’s a night you won’t want to miss!
