Event description

Description

What does Ethel Payne "First Lady of The Black Press", Richard Hunt, "internationally acclaimed sculptor", Milton B. Olive III, "Vietnam War Hero" and the inaugural class of the Cook County Normal School also known today as "Chicago State University" have in common?

The answer: Greater Saint John African Methodist Church (GSJAMEC). The faith community of Greater Saint John AME Church and the city of Chicago will pause to celebrate 130 years of service to Englewood and the larger South Side Chicago.

GSJAMEC, founded in 1887, was instrumental in shaping the black middle class of Chicago and made Englewood one of the first black affluent communities in the nation.

Come out and help us celebrate our historic past and more prosperous future at our anniversary luncheon (August 26, 2017 at Nikos Banquet Hall with) as well as our Sunday worship service on August 27, 2017 (10am-12pm at Greater Saint John AME 6201 S. Throop)

Donate and/or purchase a ticket and be part of a new history.

Be Greater,

Pastor Kevin Andre Brooks
