Featuring Brenda Combs

Walk in My Shoes

By challenging the stigmas around poverty you'll discover that it’s never just one thing that causes someone to be poor—it can happen to anyone who is living paycheck to paycheck, loses healthcare coverage, faces death or the desertion of a partner.

Hear from keynote speaker Dr. Brenda Combs, a symbol of inspiration and perseverance to all who meet her. A little over a decade ago, she was homeless and without hope. She had been through unimaginable experiences during the endless years she called “a freeway underpass in the worst part of Phoenix home.” It took hitting rock bottom to find the strength to turn her life around.

Dr. Combs now spreads a message of hope wherever she goes. Her journey has been called “From Homeless to Hero” by local  and national media, including The Today Show, CNN and radio talk shows across the country. She also sang and shared her message at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.

This breakfast event will feature an update on our work in fighting poverty in Pierce County and we will announce the recipients of this year's Neighborhood Grants and LIVE UNITED award winners. Contributions of $25 per guest will go toward our work to removing barriers to self-sufficiency. Event costs are covered by our generous sponsors.
